Challenges
Before engaging with Food Safety Assist, IFI faced a significant challenge in developing food safety systems that met the stringent requirements of the BRCGS Storage and Distribution standard. The business lacked both the internal resources and the necessary expertise to implement these systems effectively.
Complicating the situation further, IFI’s supply chain was diverse. While they served national clients, they also maintained a strong local customer base, delivering smaller-volume products sourced from a wide range of local suppliers. The approval and management of these varied suppliers posed an additional hurdle, making compliance with regulatory standards even more complex.
Preparation & Implementation
To support IFI in achieving accreditation, Food Safety Assist provided a comprehensive, hands-on programme. This included an initial gap analysis to assess areas requiring improvement, followed by detailed project implementation, staff training, and internal auditing. Our team was also present during the final audit to provide direct support.
Understanding the evolving needs of the business, we assigned a dedicated associate who worked flexibly to accommodate IFI’s changing demands. When unexpected staff changes occurred toward the later stages of the project, we took on a more active role to ensure the necessary systems were fully implemented before the client’s end-of-year deadline.
Outcomes & Results
The collaboration led to the successful development of a robust food safety system, designed not just to meet compliance requirements but also to be fully understood and managed internally by IFI’s team moving forward.
In December 2024, IFI underwent its first audit and achieved an outstanding AA grade, a testament to the effectiveness of the food safety processes put in place. Following this success, Food Safety Assist continues to provide ongoing mentoring to IFI’s team, ensuring they maintain compliance. Additionally, we are supporting the newly established Compliance Administrator role within the business to sustain these high standards long-term.
