Food Safety Consultants know Food Safety is not common sense!
We have heard time and time again the old saying of ‘If you want something doing properly then just do it yourself’. As much as I admire those that live by this motto, there is a time and a place for this. If I have a broken washing machine or my car is making a funny noise, then I will seek the help of those that know what they are doing. I admit sometimes reluctantly! Implementing, running and improving the food safety aspects of a food business is exactly the same thing. A Food Safety Consultant can advise on legal requirements, expertly interpret and implement food standards and train staff.
If you want to have trust in what you are putting in place, efficient and the best thing for your business, the best thing to do is consult the experts in that field!
Tailored Support & Guidance
We have helped a wide variety of business from start-up companies implementing their first safety system to established companies seeking to expand. Each business need is unique and we always tailor our assistance.
A Case Study…
With the ever-changing climate we are all currently living in, many businesses are reviewing which direction to take. For example, our food safety consultant, Brian Humphreys, advised a London based client of over 8 years to move from the BRCGS Food Accreditation to SALSA accreditation. SALSA Food is more suited to their company size and customer requirements at this current moment.
This was a big change for them. We went from annual check-ups, reviews and on call advising to a larger scale project of adapting their system to their current situation.
This allowed them to be more efficient to keep on top of their paperwork and deal with any issues arising quickly. Customers and staff became more confident and happy happy at the same time.
Our client didn’t have the resources, manpower or time to spare to review the whole system, as well as, keeping orders heading out of the doors. By bringing in a team of knowledgeable experts the pressure was taken off the management team. This allows them to focus on the business itself.
The new safety system is in place and they have attained SALSA accreditation. We have gone back to providing back up support and training as and when it is required.
Start Ups have unique Food Safety needs…
Another example of when it is ideal to bring in a food safety consultant is for start-up companies. How many times have you renewed your phone contract and read the full terms and conditions before signing? I certainly haven’t, as the language the contracts are written in mean very little to me and are several pages long.
The same can be said when reading through legislation requirements for a start-up company dealing with meat preparations. For example; the shortened legislation guide for the controls of animal by products is 33 pages long, this is only one small section to consider when starting up and maintaining a meat processing business. This is where my advice would be to consult the help of those that are knowledgeable in this field. Otherwise, you will find yourself bogged down in paperwork, trying to understand legislation and how and what you need to implement in your business to meet all the legal requirements. All of this while trying to set up other aspects of your business.
Maximising Food Safety Opportunities
Getting it right from the start means you stand a better chance of having a profitable, smooth running food company without as much headache and stress. As Barack Obama was once quoted “Asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of strength. It shows you have the courage to admit when you don’t know something, and to learn something new”.
